Avoiding Teacher Burnout

Teaaching is an exhausting profession.  Teachers in general are tired. Teachers who understand the importance of acquisition in language learning and the need for students to be able to communicate in English must be engaging, create stimulating activities, and constantly meet the changing demands of unique learners.

Teachers should be actors, coaches,  psychologists, and guides.

Teachers like a candle, try to give and give until they themselves have nothing left. The salary is low, there is lack of support.

Teaching English is difficult. A teacher have to be a pronunciation expert, a reading, writing,  grammar  and speaking expert. An English teacher should know about TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, GRE and GMAT.  An English teacher teaches to different groups and is supposed to be an expert on different things, be familiar  with new books, new standards, new curriculum and new ways of teaching. The field is constantly evolving.

Teaching is a career that can  truly wear one down, and wear one out.

To avoid teacher burn out:
  •   Form a network.
  • Avoid complaining and the complainers.
  • Work with others. Teaching is a team sport.
  • Share ideas, experiences, and lesson plans.
  • Ask other teachers questions.
  • Have control over what you can
  • Try  to be an agent of change.
  • Celebrate the rewords of teaching, moments when students are able to achieve their goals.
