Building on What Students Know

"The contemporary view of learning is that people constrict new knowledge and understandings based on what they already know and believe is actually a fundamental basic to learning".

When a teacher teaches any given subject the students always have some idea whether it is correct or not about the subject because they already have some preconceived idea about the subject. The teacher is supposed to elicit what students know and build on it.

The teacher should also try  to correct any wrong understandings the students might have.

So give a voice to your audience, build on what they know, and correct misconceptions.
